Support Your Mates

Not the stakes

The odds are stacked against you

And they know it

Protect your mates

Against online sports gambling-related harm

The Real Stakes Purpose

To support our people. Back your mates. Tackle online sports gambling-related harm

The Real Stakes is a community footy program developed by the community for community footy – we are here to raise awareness of the real harm that online sports gambling can cause. We provide clubs and their people with practical tools and support to identify and address harm related to online sports gambling, learn how to prevent it, and understand how to support your friends – or even yourself.

Launching in February 2025, The Real Stakes has been created by people who love the game – the Adelaide Footy League, Perth Football League and Victorian Amateur Football League – for those who want to protect it.

Lived experience experts

Gain invaluable insights from individuals who have experienced online sports gambling harm first-hand – both those who have been affected directly and their loved ones. Their insights and diverse perspectives help others recognise warning signs and find pathways for support.

How the industry causes harm

The online sports gambling industry profits from risky behaviours, using tactics designed to keep people gambling.

What our clubs can do

Clubs can lead the way by creating a culture of support and awareness. The Real Stakes will provide practical steps and tools to empower your players, volunteers and members.

Supporting your mates starts here

The Real Stakes will be delivering information sessions and webinars across Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne in 2025. Together, we can make a positive difference for our mates and communities.
