In a recent interview with Oliver Peterson on 6PR, Perth Football League CEO Andrew Dawe shared some eye-opening insights about why community footy leagues across the country are tackling gambling harm. Research conducted across community football networks revealed many players, particularly young men, are gambling beyond their means and feeling significant peer pressure to gamble.
Mr Dawe expressed concern about how gambling has infiltrated football culture, noting that even his own children now discuss matches in terms of gambling odds. He supports reducing gambling advertising in sport, suggesting elimination, or at least a roadmap towards it, would be best for the future of the game.
